Here Are The Top Kitchen Maintenance Tips You Should Know

Your kitchen is the hub of your home and being able to care for it properly should be a priority. If you want to know how to take better care of your kitchen, keep reading for our top tips.

Laminate benchtop tips

  1. It’s important to never place hot pans or trays directly onto a laminate surface, especially if you’ve recently had a kitchen renovation and want to keep things in tip top shape. Make sure you use a hot pad to prevent any damage.
  2. If you spill anything onto your benchtop, make sure you clean it immediately. Concentrated bleach, oven cleaners and dark coloured juices like beetroot or grape that could stain must be wiped as soon as spilled to avoid permanent staining.

All about cabinets

  1. To clean your kitchen cabinets, wash them down with warm water and a small amount of detergent. We recommend also using a streak free glass cleaner with a soft cloth. For wood kitchen cabinets, you may find that you need to use a soft brush from time to time to remove any build up. We do  Kitchen renovations in Rolleston and offer a choice of many different materials for cabinetry.
  2. For spillages, particularly on white kitchen cabinets, there are a few options depending on the spillage. For fabric or hair dye, we recommend washing with cold water, wiping dry and then applying methylated spirits. For battery acid or hydrogen peroxide, try washing with cold water only and then wiping dry.

Stainless steel

  1. In general, after you use your sink, a wipe with a cloth and a rinse should be fine. If you have hard water in your area, it’s especially important that it’s wiped dry to prevent any buildup. Note that although stainless steel is tough, it can be scuffed or scratched easily which can look particularly bad if it occurs following a new kitchen renovation.
  2. Avoid bleaches containing hypochlorite and silver dip cleaners as they can cause staining. Similarly, certain foods like salt, citric fruit juices and pickles can cause corrosion, so ensure they’re not left on the surface for a long time.
